The National Petroleum Corporation (NPC) is pioneering the advancement towards the Government of Barbados’ target of Island-State Carbon Neutrality by 2030, through a clean energy initiative utilizing wind technology.
The NPC Team has erected three 80-metre meteorological masts in Lamberts, St Lucy, Castle, St Peter and Woodbourne, St Philip. These masts will remain in place for a period of 12 months and gather data on wind trends in the area. This data will determine the capacity for wind turbine creation and wind farm developments in the near future.
The Team has worked in collaboration with The Energy Division of the Ministry of Energy and Business, Barbados National Oil Company Limited and the Barbados Light & Power Company to streamline this project as all parties seek to expand the energy solutions for the country.
The NPC Team will be routinely checking these installations during the course of the year to maintain the integrity of the structures and manage data analytics.
